Steel Push Piers

steel-push-pierWhen you think of having your house “jacked up” this is the process that comes to mind. Steel Resistance Piers are driven hydraulically into the soil using the structural weight of the building as a reaction force. For Iowa residents this is a greatfoundation repair solution, Push Pier Iowa. Your source for helical pier Iowa services.

The ECP Steel Pier™ is like other resistance piers in that it is an end-bearing pier that does not rely upon nor require skin friction to produce support.

There are two different types of piers that ECP offers. They are the concentric pier and the eccentric pier. The concentric is installed directly below the load and the eccentric is installed to the side of the intended load. Both have been largely field tested and work equally well in their duty of supporting a foundation load. The application itself distinguishes between the model of the pier and the design of the pier.

Our Foundation Pier System

basement-piersFirst, we attach a series of pier brackets to your home’s footing. They are made of heavy, industrial-strength steel. Then, the rugged steel piers are hydraulically driven in to solid bedrock or proper load-bearing strata with high-pressure equipment. The piers are driven individually and the entire structure works as the reaction.
Next, a friction reduction collar is attached to the lead section of pier pipe. The purpose of the collar is to create an opening in the soil that has a larger diameter than the pier pipe. This dramatically reduces the skin friction on the pier pipe as it is driven into the soil and allows the installer to load test and verify that the pier encountered firm load-bearing strata or rock that is suitable to support the structure. Each pier is individually tested for successful load-bearing capacity.

During load transfer, high pressure hydraulic jacks are placed at multiple locations thus reducing the load on each pier. All of the reinforcement is done underground so as to not have any exposed repairs. The final step is to transfer the weight of your home from the unstable soil to the rock-solid piers so your home is secure with the pier system permanently in place and hidden from view.
